James Yeowart

JAMES YEOWART:

James joined the firm of Syfret Godlonton & Low on 1 November 1965 as a candidate attorney. He was admitted as an attorney on 21 January 1970 and as a notary on 24 March 1971.

In 1971 James became a partner of Syfret Godlonton & Low and subsequently a director of Syfret Godlonton-Fuller Moore Inc until he commenced practicing for his own account on 1 December 1990.

Throughout his career James has practiced exclusively in the fields of deceased estates, trusts, wills and curatorship estates.

From 1979 to 1992 James was a member of the Association of Law Societies' Standing Committee on Deceased Estates, serving as chairman from 1987 to 1989. From 1983 to 1989 he was an examiner (Estates & Bookkeeping) for the attorneys' admission examination. In the mid-1980's he was also an examiner for the Doctoral Thesis Board of the University of Cape Town.

Since March 2009, James has reluctantly decided to restrict his practice to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, remaining actively involved in all areas of this firm albeit, primarily, the drafting and execution of Wills.

NICHOLAS YEOWART:

James employed Nicholas as his candidate attorney in February 1992. While serving his articles, Nicholas completed his studies at the University of Port Elizabeth, and was admitted as an attorney on 21 January 2000 and as a notary on 18 October 2002. In March 2002 he became a partner in the firm.

Nicholas was a member of the Law Society of South Africa's standing committee on Deceased Estates, Trusts and Planning from March 2007 to February 2009, and was also a member of the Cape Law Society's committee on Wills, Estates and Trusts, to which he was appointed, on the formation of that committee, in October 2007 until his retirement from that committee in November 2011.

In March 2008, Nicholas was appointed as an examiner for the Estates and Attorneys Bookkeeping papers of the Attorneys Admission Examination. Due to the demands of practice, Nicholas now conducts oral examinations only for the panel in these fields.

Nicholas practices in all areas of the firm, with a particular focus on the liquidation and distribution of Deceased Estates and the management of Curatorship Estates and Trusts, together with efficient and credible Estate Planning for Estate Duty purposes.
